It goes without saying that women are very conscious about their bodies. It doesn’t make it better than the society has set standards on how a woman with a perfect body is supposed to look like. From issues of weight to the facial structure among other things, it is difficult for most women out there. Among the things that disturb women about their appearance is cellulite. Records show that roughly 80 to 90 percent of women will and have probably experienced cellulite in their lifetime.

Definition and Cause of Cellulite

Cellulite is a technical term used to refer to the formation of lumps and dimples on the skin. Some people refer to it as cottage-cheese skin or orange-peel skin. The most common areas where cellulite occurs are the buttocks and thighs and in some cases the underarms and even stomach for women who have just had babies. This condition is most common to women but in some few cases, it also affects men.

Cellulite occurs as a result of the interaction between the layer just below the surface of the skin and the fatty layer that is right beneath it. When the fatty layer protrudes into the layer of skin then the cellulite appearance occurs. This happens in women since the two layers occur vertically in their dermatological layer arrangement. Men may be less likely affected since these two layers do not appear vertically in them but actually crisscross. Hormones, lifestyle, and diet, age and genetics are also common factors that may lead one to suffer from cellulite.

Categories of Cellulite

There are three categories of cellulite. There is the mild category which is basically roughly 1 to 4 superficial depressions and sagging of the skin. The second one is the moderate category which characterized by 5 to 9 depressions that are of medium depth accompanied with mildly draped skin. Finally, there is a severe category, commonly known as the mattress appearance which is more than 10 depressions and severely draped skin.

Cellulite Treatment

Over the years, numerous therapies have been invented to treat cellulite. Some of these include laser treatment, acoustic wave therapy, carboxytherapy, endermologie, liposuction and radiotherapy among several others. Other than the therapies, medications, and creams have also been invented like a Luxe Spa No. 33 cream. This method of treatment has been found to be most effective since these creams and medications are developed in ways that allow them to work on the fatty tissues directly. The creams are also less temporary than the treatments. There are also some medications that can improve the cell metabolism and circulation between the tissues and cells hence treat cellulite.

Lifestyle and dietary changes can also be very effective in the prevention and at times treatment of cellulite. Consumption of fewer fats, carbohydrates, and salt is advised as well as the intake of adequate fiber. Exercise and abstinence from vices like smoking have also been proven to be effective when it comes to dealing with the issue of cellulite.
